Can they come back two years later? hey everyone, so april 29th 2009, I was driving my friends car with only my g1 and her and I hit a green hydro box. It has been two years since the accident, and I got a letter in the mail yesterday, an invoice, stating the damage on the hyrdo box was 6700 dollars, I have no heard from the hydro company until now. I was just wondering, if there is a statue of limitations or something? Do I have to pay for an accident that happened two years ago if they havnt made ANY effort to contact me until now? Mitsubishi . How to 'Burp' a Toyota Coolant System"Burping" the cooling system in your Toyota refers to bleeding the cooling system and is necessary if air has entered the system. Air in the cooling system causes hot spots and subsequently overheating and serious engine damage. To prevent serious engine damage, take a few minutes to bleed the cooling system of air. Bleeding the cooling system in your Toyota is very simple and best of all doesn't require any tools. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Safety glasses Gloves Step by Step : 1 Allow the engine to cool down to ambient temperature. 2 Open the radiator cap. 3 Turn the engine on and turn the heat to max. Turning the heat to max allows the radiator fluid to circulate through the cooling system to ensure that all air pockets are eliminated from the system. 4 Rev the engine to 2,000 RPMs and hold for approximately 10 to 15 seconds and repeat two to three times. This will allow the radiator fluid to circulate throughout the whole system and ensure that all air pockets exit the radiator. 5 Gently squeeze the upper radiator hose approximately 6 to 12 inches from the radiator cap. Squeeze about five times. This will bring more air pockets up and out of the radiator and will ensure that the engine does not overheat. Tips & Warnings Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes and gloves to avoid serious skin burns.
Mitsubishi . Vanagon TroubleshootingThe Volkswagen Vanagon is a rear-engine, forward drive transport vehicle that is derived from the VW Transporter design. The model debuted in 1980 and was replaced by the front-engine Eurovan in 1994. The Vanagon was plagued with design flaws that would cause engine and drive train issues; early models with air-cooled engines were the most problematic. The average backyard mechanic can troubleshoot a Vanagon in about an hour. Overheating The engine is in the rear of the van, like the classic Transporters, and being air cooled, it tends to get very hot. From 1980 to 1983, the engines used for the Vanagons were identical to those used for Transporters, except for square valve ports. After mid-year 1983, the newer, water-cooled versions became available. These used long coolant pipes to run the water to the front of the van to a radiator. While this system works in theory, the engine was simply a version of the older 2.0 liter air-cooled motor, with water jackets instead of air fins. When the van overheats, the first thing to do is look for leaks in this water system, which means inspecting underneath the whole vehicle. The water jackets around the cylinders are also prone to have internal leaks, which "cooks" the coolant and makes it disappear. The use of any other coolant/antifreeze than VW factory liquid has been known to cause problems with corrosion, as the two different kinds of metal in the water jacket and crankcase use the coolant as an electrolyte and form a charge, as found in a battery. When an air-cooled motor overheats, it is typically an oil issue; the oil for air-cooled motors is vital to keeping them cooled. Some exterior oil coolers have been known to reduce the operating temperature of these vans. Fuel Injection The model years from 1976 to the mid-1980's were considered "experimental" years for fuel injection. The 2000cc motor that came in 1980 to 1983 models had similar mechanical/electrical fuel injection systems with those in 1979 models. Water-cooled models had evolving systems, and the later years versions were the most reliable. A major keystone to inspect on the FI systems is the mixture solenoid box, which is mounted near the air intake box, on the right side of the motor. This circuit tells the engine how to mix the fuel in relation to the amount of air that this box senses. The small spring inside is adjustable, and if the issue is a loping engine, bad acceleration and poor fuel economy, check this circuit's adjustment screw. The box has a black top lid that comes off easily, exposing the spring and screw. Counterclockwise is leaner, clockwise is richer. Another part of this system is close by--the throttle cable coupling in the center rear of the motor can have air leaks, giving a rich or lean FI system as the solenoid tries to adjust. The fuel injectors themselves were relatively reliable, and are about as easy to change as a spark plug. Charging The Vanagons all came with alternating generators, which provide power for recharging the battery and running the engine. The design of having the entire system in the rear, with most accessories in the front or middle, means a lot of excess wiring running through the vehicle. Any corner turning point could cause a ground-out or blown fuse, and troubleshooting the electrical system for faults requires a voltmeter and patience to test each wire. Replacement of the wiring is difficult, but can usually be simplified by running new wiring and bypassing the burned-out wires. *.Chapter 6: The Fuel System: The Heart and Lungs of Your Car The nitty-gritty on turbocharging If you just can't get enough of this turbocharging stuff, the following gets a bit more specific about how turbocharging works: 1. The hot exhaust gases leave the exhaust manifold in much the same manner as they usually do. But instead of going directly through the exhaust system and out of the car via the tailpipe, they first pass through a turbine, which is nothing but a fan that's set in motion by the velocity of the passing gases. 2. A shaft connects the fan to a compressor, which blows fresh, filtered air into the cylinders. (On a gasoline-powered car, it takes the fuel/air mixture supplied by the carburetor and blows it into the cylinders.) 335

The excess and used exhaust fumes pass from the turbine to the exhaust system and continue on their way to the tailpipe and out into the air in their usual manner. 4. The more load on the engine, the hotter and faster are the exhaust fumes that turn the turbine. The faster they turn it, the more air the compressor sends to the engine and the faster the engine can go. This unique way of converting exhaust gas energy into mechanical power has a nice merry-goround effect. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, usually the first thing an engineer learns is "The simpler, the better," or, as the Zen monks put it, "Less is more." (Ecology, engineering, and philosophy all in a couple of paragraphs! Maybe I ought to change the name of this book to Zen and the Art of Auto Maintenance.) Don't confuse turbocharging with supercharging. A supercharger is a pump that compresses the fuel/air mixture and forces it into the cylinders of a gasoline-powered car: Because superchargers are usually belt-driven by the engine instead of by exhaust gases, they use engine power to increase engine power. Because they're not fuel efficient, they generally are used only to increase the speed of "high-performance," low-efficiency vehicles. Turbocharging kits are available that you can install on conventional vehicles to increase their power and performance. However, because turbocharging places considerable stress on engines that weren't designed with turbocharging in mind, you run the risk of damaging your engine and voiding all existing warranties if you decide to boost Old Faithful with a turbo kit. So investigate the situation carefully before you go this route. Some owners have had marvelous success, and their engines have lived to tell the tale; others haven't been as lucky. Generally speaking, I would never attempt to turbocharge the original engine of an older car, nor would I tinker with anything but a ruggedly built engine in top condition. If Old Faithful is beginning to show the strain of passing years, it would be wiser to recycle the old workhorse and buy yourself a turbo-powered filly! Part II: What Makes It Go? Mitsubishi . It also provides instructions for maintaining and troubleshooting diesels and for finding a good diesel mechanic when your best efforts just aren't enough. Although diesel-powered vehicles are almost universal in a large part of the world where gasoline is almost unavailable, diesel engines are used mainly for heavy equipment in the United States and Canada. Diesel-powered cars exist, but — except for a short period in the 1980s, when fuel shortages made them popular because they got 25 percent more miles per gallon than gasoline engines — they have acquired a reputation for being noisy, underpowered, smelly, and cantankerous. This is not always the case, however. Mercedes-Benz, who pioneered the diesel car as a luxury vehicle decades ago, still makes diesel-powered vehicles that many consider unsurpassed for beauty, performance, high resale value, and high price tags. Volkswagen, whose VW Rabbit was the first peppy, moderately priced diesel car, still offers diesel-powered vehicles, and other manufacturers also offer diesel cars and trucks.
